Cahto Smoke was taken from his sister and was forced to work for the Neverseen for years.  But one day he gets a ticket out - and he takes it.  

  All he thought he wanted was to keep his sister safe, but when he meets Astraia Sencen, his priorities change.  He becomes unsure of what to do, afraid he can't protect his loved ones.  

  He joins a group called the Defenders and becomes one of the Leaders.  They take in Neverseen runaways and anyone who wants to help save the Lost Cities and protects anyone in danger.  

  One day he comes across a hard decision that comes with sacrifice.  One that will cause either life or death. . . 

Astraia Sencen has been banished for four years all because of a 'small' little accident in Atlantis that caused some people a teensy tiny little migraine.  

  When she's finally reunited with her brother, the reunion isn't quite how she expected.  After getting attacked by an ogre, losing her arm, getting orders to kill Elwin, getting kidnapped by the Neverseen, and meeting a boy named Cahto, Astraia flees from her old life into a new one.  

  But her new life is just as confusing, complicated and secretive as her old one.  All she wants to do is get everything back to normal - or at least something like normal.  But being a Leader in a new rising group known as the Defenders makes that hope disappear fast.
